Here's a story. The story of my little plant: Echevaria.
Let me start from the beginning. I was in year 10, which is about 2 years and 9 months ago. I was in a biology lesson, my teacher Ms. Grandner(or maybe Gardener) was teaching us about plants. We were going to do a practical to examine how Root Powder can help little plants grow.
We had to cut little offsprings of a few plants. I only did one. So I dipped the end of the little plant in water and then Root Powder. We then, had to put them in little pots anf fill them with compost. So,we did. My pot wasn't even a proper pot. It was made of card board! So I couldn't water the plant properly, or the pot would be soaked. In the end of thee lesson, alot of my classmates left their pots in the lab. But I took mine home.
So,that was the beginning. That's how I found Echevaria!I looked after it. Wtared it and got rid of its dead leaves every now and then. I even breathed out on its leaves. This may sound silly, but I thought this would give the plant, the carbon dioxide it needs for photosynthesis! Ha! Oh...did I mention that I changed the pot?!
It grew more and more. Its stem kept getting longer because it kept losing its lower leaves. So I had to change its pot. I got a bigger pot and after a while put it in there.
My mum kept telling me to chuck the poor plant out. I didn't want to. That would have been the meanest thing I could do to my plant.
Anyways...after about two years, Echevaria started growing flowers. I didn't even know it would grow flowers!! But it did, and they were ever so pretty and interesting, I must say!
So, this idea (this stupid idea) popped into my head! I thought to my self: "Why don't I chop a little bit of the stem, dip it in water, then in Root Powder. This way I could put it in a smaller pot!" What a great idea indeed(!).
So, I chopped the stem, dipped it water, dipped it in Root Powder and voila! It was ready to go into the new, smalle pot!
That was it. I killed my little baby! I should have known that Echevaria isn't small anymore. You can't just cut the stem and the roots, and hope that they'll grow back, just because you've put some Root Powder on them!
I didn't realise this until a few months after that. There was still a bit of hope though. Because the flowers kept growing! That was a good thing!
This hope didn't lat long . I realised that the stem was going purple. That only meant one thing...my Echy was dying !
Mum started telling me to chuck it out again. My sis made fun of my Echy :" Your child is dead!" And she was right.
